This is an excellent article that points out that the major problem in Iraq is corruption, with sectarian strife and revenge killings running close behind. Corruption is hard to break where it has always existed, so it is taking a while. However, the Arab fears of the emerging Persian threat are well founded and are forcing the Arabs to unite despite themselves. This might bode well for the future of the Middle East, which has not seen peace in the memories of any historian that I know. Maybe this aggressive Iran is just what is needed, even though it will have a very high cost in human bodies. I will pray for them.

The Shia majority government in Iraq feels threatened by the Iranian backed terrorist groups. While these terrorists maintain some popularity by killing Sunni Arabs, the government has them vastly outnumbered by soldiers and police. While Iranian money can buy some cops and soldiers, it can't buy enough of them to overthrow the government, or save the pro-Iran Shia militias. A Non-Credible Threat

O’Donnell dismisses Mohammed’s outlined specifics about the acts of war against America that ranged from the beheading of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in Pakistan to attacks that never came to fruitarian because of either good law enforcement or dumb luck by talking bad about America. her complaint is (what else) torture, oh and that Mohammed had a bad picture. Note to law enforcement – bad pictures may be enough to sway a hen even after a terrorist makes a confession.

Admitting to 31 actual or would be terrorist attacks is not enough for O’Donnell because shortly after the show began and the gals began their roundtable clucking of banter Rosie decided to defend a terrorist. 'I think the man has been under custody in secret CIA torture prisons and Guantanamo Bay where torture is accepted and allowed – and he finally is the guy who admits to doing everything.'"

On March 16, Palestinian gunmen sought to abduct UNRWA operations chief John Ging, one of the few senior officials left in the Gaza Strip. The gunmen blocked an armed convoy and fired at least five times toward Ging's vehicle. Nobody was hurt and the gunmen escaped."

Disappearance of 100 bars of uranium

I don't think I have to say how much this scares me. WMDs are about the only thing that scares me more than LA traffic, and this is not the kind of story that is going to make me sleep well. The UN "Nuclear Watchdog" is a house pet! All they DO is watch. They have no teeth. I think a battalion of US Marines could guard the worlds uranium better than all the worthless "inspectors" of the UN. The DR Congo newspaper Le Phare reported the uranium was removed from the nuclear center in Kinshasa as “part of a vast trafficking operation.”

The DR Congo’s commissioner for atomic energy Prof. Fortunat Lumu and an associate have been arrested for allegedly belonging to an international network set up to mine and export uranium illegally in recent years. Tehran is suspected of being behind the affair.

Congo minister of scientific research Sylvanus Mushi said Lumu and his colleague had illegally negotiated partnership deals with foreign companies without government authorization. He said network members had come from Europe, South Africa and the Seychelles.

Congo’s Shinkolobwe mine provided high-quality uranium for the Manhattan Project in World War Two. Belgium sealed the mine by filling it with concrete when Congo gained independence in 1960.

SYRIA DEVELOPS BIO-WEAPONS

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Syria has advanced in efforts to produce biological missile warheads.

The U.S. intelligence community has determined that the regime of President Bashar Assad was developing an infrastructure for biological weapons production. Officials said Assad has advanced the BW program through help from China and North Korea.

"Syria's biotechnical infrastructure is capable of supporting limited biological agent development," Defense Intelligence Agency director Michael Maples said. "DIA assesses Syria has a program to develop select biological agents."

Maples said Syria has sought to install biological and chemical warheads on its missile arsenal. He said the programs were meant to deter Israel's conventional force superiority.

Syria has been known to have bioweapons for decades. However, the delivery systems are what has been holding them back. The Soviets would not let them develop this capability. Now they are being encouraged by their new patrons. Just another step forward for the world's plunge into the long night.

This is a long piece of liberal trash in most respects. The author is working very hard to get the readers to feel sorry for the sorry state of affairs in Palestine. He does not touch upon the fact that the reason there is no economy in these areas is that the terror groups destroy anything, and anyone, that comes in to help. They are the ultimate in victims. There is no such thing as a 50 year old refugee camp! Get real! If they are still living in tents after all this time it is because they want to, not because the millions, billions?, of dollars in aid have been kept away. There are no jobs because the only jobs allowed by the terrorists have to be related to the jihad. They have ruined themselves.

If the UN could do the job it was created for, these camps would have been broken up decades ago. As it currently stands, I think the only possible solution is to break the Palestinians into family groups and send them to other countries where they can slowly learn to rejoin humanity. Humans do not worship death! This is yet another major flaw in the Palestinian people. If you can find another solution, please let me know.

British crack down on bioterrorism

Good to see that the British have not entirely given in yet. Maybe they will survive!


Britain’s laboratories have been ordered to strengthen security on stocks of more than 100 deadly viruses and bacteria after an MI5 warning that Islamic terrorists are training in germ warfare. The biological agents include polio, rabies, tuberculosis and avian flu. Food poisoning bacteria such as E. coli and the sources of a number of rare tropical and Middle Eastern illnesses are also included.

Scientists and laboratory staff in universities, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies who deal with agents will have to be vetted by police, and their laboratories will be checked by government safety inspectors. Stock will have to be regularly audited. The crackdown comes after MI5 privately warned the Foreign and Commonwealth Office that al-Qaeda was actively recruiting scientists. Extremist groups are known to have targeted students, offering to fund courses in return for using their newly acquired expertise.

Last November Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller, the Director-General of MI5, gave warning that terror attacks in Britain could involve weapons of mass destruction.

She said that terrorists were seeking the means to mount a range of attacks using chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear devices. “We know that the aspiration is there, we know attempts to gather materials are there, we know that attempts to gather technologies are there,” she said.

Terrorists use WMD in attack

AR RAMADI, Iraq – Emergency Response Unit personnel, Iraqi Police, and civilians northwest of Ramadi were attacked by a suicide vehicle-born improvised explosive device (SVBIED) early Sunday [Jan 28, 2007]. Coalition forces responded to the attack to provide immediate medical assistance and evacuate the wounded to medical facilities.

Along with the suicide bomber, 16 people were killed by the attack.

The SVBIED was a dump truck filled with explosives and included a chlorine tank. The truck crashed into the Emergency Response Unit compound and detonated. There are no indications of any casualties caused by the release of chlorine gas.

The Al Jazeera Police and U.S. Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 37th Infantry Brigade responded to the scene and worked together to evacuate the casualties. The majority of the casualties were evacuated to the U.S. medical facility at Camp Ramadi. Some victims of the attack were evacuated to Coalition medical facilities in Balad and Baghdad.

Emergency Response Units serve as a quick reaction force to augment and support the police in Anbar province. They are made up of Iraqi citizens and are led by the commander of the Iraqi Police in Anbar.

I have been reading about many things the past few days and I see an expansion of the War on Terror. How soon? Not sure. If the Israelis gain more influence, soon. If the Muslims have their way it will never happen. Also, the Democrats are on the side of the terrorists on this. But Iran is going to be added soon. Very soon!

I think that what is going to happen is a limited strike on Iran. That is the real reason for the Surge. We will find out soon if that is the case.

I was looking for a link about the Iranian nuclear plant to link to for this prediction. Found the link I posted here and then went to the Main page on GlobalSecurity.org. I have not been there since my computer crashed last summer and ate my bookmarks. Right on the front page they have a countdown timer and link to a story that says the same thing! Interesting! I am glad that my read and that of the Experts is the same. It is kind of obvious if you think about it.

WHY I JOINED

Why I Joined:

This question has been asked of me so many times in so many different contexts that I thought it would be best if I wrote my reasons for joining the Army on my page for all to see. First, the more accurate question is why I volunteered to go to Iraq. After all, I joined the Army a week after we declared war on Saddam's government with the intention of going to Iraq. Now, after years of training and preparation, I am finally here.

Much has changed in the last three years. The criminal Ba'ath regime has been replaced by an insurgency fueled by Iraq's neighbors who hope to partition Iraq for their own ends. This is coupled with the ever present transnational militant Islamist movement which has seized upon Iraq as the greatest way to kill Americans, along with anyone else they happen to be standing near. What was once a paralyzed state of fear is now the staging ground for one of the largest transformations of power and ideology the Middle East has experienced since the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. Thanks to Iran, Syria, and other enlightened local actors, this transformation will be plagued by interregional hatred and genocide. And I am now in the center of this.

Is this why I joined?

Yes. Much has been said about America's intentions in overthrowing Saddam Hussein and seeking to establish a new state based upon political representation and individual rights. Many have framed the paradigm through which they view the conflict around one-word explanations such as "oil" or "terrorism," favoring the one which best serves their political persuasion. I did the same thing, and anyone who knew me before I joined knows that I am quite aware and at times sympathetic to the arguments against the war in Iraq. If you think the only way a person could bring themselves to volunteer for this war is through sheer desperation or blind obedience then consider me the exception (though there are countless like me).

I joined the fight because it occurred to me that many modern day "humanists" who claim to possess a genuine concern for human beings throughout the world are in fact quite content to allow their fellow "global citizens" to suffer under the most hideous state apparatuses and conditions. Their excuses used to be my excuses. When asked why we shouldn't confront the Ba'ath party, the Taliban or the various other tyrannies throughout this world, my answers would allude to vague notions of cultural tolerance (forcing women to wear a veil and stay indoors is such a quaint cultural tradition), the sanctity of national sovereignty (how eager we internationalists are to throw up borders to defend dictatorships!) or even a creeping suspicion of America's intentions. When all else failed, I would retreat to my fragile moral ecosystem that years of living in peace and liberty had provided me. I would write off war because civilian casualties were guaranteed, or temporary alliances with illiberal forces would be made, or tank fuel was toxic for the environment. My fellow "humanists" and I would relish contently in our self righteous declaration of opposition against all military campaigns against dictatorships, congratulating one another for refusing to taint that aforementioned fragile moral ecosystem that many still cradle with all the revolutionary tenacity of the members of Rage Against the Machine and Greenday. Others would point to America's historical support of Saddam Hussein, sighting it as hypocritical that we would now vilify him as a thug and a tyrant. Upon explaining that we did so to ward off the fiercely Islamist Iran, which was correctly identified as the greater threat at the time, eyes are rolled and hypocrisy is declared. Forgetting that America sided with Stalin to defeat Hitler, who was promptly confronted once the Nazis were destroyed, America's initial engagement with Saddam and other regional actors is identified as the ultimate argument against America's moral crusade.

And maybe it is. Maybe the reality of politics makes all political action inherently crude and immoral. Or maybe it is these adventures in philosophical masturbation that prevent people from ever taking any kind of effective action against men like Saddam Hussein. One thing is for certain, as disagreeable or as confusing as my decision to enter the fray may be, consider what peace vigils against genocide have accomplished lately. Consider that there are 19 year old soldiers from the Midwest who have never touched a college campus or a protest who have done more to uphold the universal legitimacy of representative government and individual rights by placing themselves between Iraqi voting lines and homicidal religious fanatics. Often times it is less about how clean your actions are and more about how pure your intentions are.

So that is why I joined. In the time it took for you to read this explanation, innocent people your age have suffered under the crushing misery of tyranny. Every tool of philosophical advancement and communication that we use to develop our opinions about this war are denied to countless human beings on this planet, many of whom live under the regimes that have, in my opinion, been legitimately targeted for destruction. Some have allowed their resentment of the President to stir silent applause for setbacks in Iraq. Others have ironically decried the war because it has tied up our forces and prevented them from confronting criminal regimes in Sudan, Uganda, and elsewhere.

I simply decided that the time for candid discussions of the oppressed was over, and I joined.

In digesting this posting, please remember that America's commitment to overthrow Saddam Hussein and his sons existed before the current administration and would exist into our future children's lives had we not acted. Please remember that the problems that plague Iraq today were set in motion centuries ago and were up until now held back by the most cruel of cages. Don't forget that human beings have a responsibility to one another and that Americans will always have a responsibility to the oppressed. Don't overlook the obvious reasons to disagree with the war but don't cheapen the moral aspects either. Assisting a formerly oppressed population in converting their torn society into a plural, democratic one is dangerous and difficult business, especially when being attacked and sabotaged from literally every direction. So if you have anything to say to me at the end of this reading, let it at least include "Good Luck"
