TB dad visits Japan hospital,100 babies to be tested

Not sure how to feel about this! This is bad, but not really his fault. What can be improved to prevent this in the future?

Reuters AlertNet - TB dad visits Japan hospital,100 babies to be tested: "Around 100 babies will be tested for tuberculosis at a hospital near Tokyo after a Japanese man who was unknowingly infected with TB repeatedly visited the maternity ward there to see his newborn.

The hospital in Saitama City just north of Tokyo said on Wednesday that no babies have shown symptoms of the disease so far, but about 100 babies who could have come into contact with the TB bacteria would undergo X-ray tests.

The father visited the ward 47 times since January before he started coughing and was diagnosed with tuberculosis last week.

TB infects about a third of the global population and kills 1.6 million a year. Any person with active tuberculosis can spread the bacteria to others.

The disease is still common in Japan, with 80 people coming down with it every day and six losing their lives because of it, according to the Japan Anti-Tuberculosis Association."
