SULTAN, in order to spite his wife Shahidabanu, who had recently separated from him, along with his friend raped and murdered his two-year-old daughter at Sayla town in Khambhalia taluka of Jamnagar district. Following Sultan's arrest on Sunday, the accused confessed to the crime.

According to case details, the two-year-old's dead body was recovered on April 25, two days after she went missing, from the outskirts of Sayla town.

Since Sultan had earlier threatened Shahidabanu to move in with him or face dire consequences, Shahidabanu grew suspicious when Sultan disappeared after the body was recovered. She then registered a case of rape and murder against her husband.

While the post-mortem report revealed the child was raped and strangulated to death, the police, which was on Sultan's trail, nabbed him.

Based on Sultan's statement, the police also arrested his accomplice Salim Modi. Police said that Sultan was agitated as his wife had moved to her parents place and refused to come back.

'Modi kidnapped the girl on April 23 when she was playing outside her house. The duo raped and then killed her. The body was thrown in deserted outskirt area,' said Jamnagar police."
